The Foundation opened a branch in Berlin in 2015 where the archive is kept and work on it carried out. Thomas Weski has been Foundation curator since the fall of 2015. He was formerly curator of photography and media at various museums and from 2009 to 2015 professor of “Cultures of the Curatorial” at the Academy of Fine Arts in Leipzig.

A special exhibition by the National Gallery of the National Museums in Berlin in cooperation with the Foundation for Photography and Media Art with the Michael Schmidt Archive.

“Michael Schmidt’s work is regarded as one of the keystones of 20th-century German photography. The Nationalgalerie considers itself very fortunate to be able to honor this great and important artist with a comprehensive retrospective,” said Udo Kittelmann, then director of the Nationalgalerie.
